Introduction to Kannami
Accessible from Atami and Mishima, the Kannami area stretches from the plains of the Izunokuni area up into the highlands of the Hakone mountain range.
Kannami’s diverse geography provides great terrain for a range of outdoor activities including hiking, cycling and golf and provides stunning views of Mt Fuji.
Highlights of Kannami
Kannami is perhaps most famous for the expansive views from Jukkoku Pass of Mt Fuji, Hakone and much of both coasts of Izu Peninsula.
Oratche organic farm is located in a secluded valley in Kannami and produces fresh milk, craft beer and organically grown vegetables for the local market.
Visit the Kannami Gateway ‘Road Station to try some Oratche soft cream ice cream and pop into the Wasabi Museum and Mentaiko park for some uniquely Japanese culinary experiences.

SUMMER ( June – August – 15 – 35 degrees)
Kannami, like most of Japan, can get very hot in the peak of Summer from late July through to the end of August.
Kannami Cat Dance Festival is unique to Kannami in which the local people paint their faces to look like cats and perform choreographed cat dances.
AUTUMN ( September – November – 10 – 25 degrees)
The Autumn months from September through to November are a great time to get outdoors and enjoy cycling, walking, and golf.
Many of the Summer vegetables are harvested at Oratche farm during the Autumn months and it is a great time to take the family for a BBQ.
WINTER ( December – February – 5 – 20 degrees)
Although it is a little colder and the days are shorter in the Winter months the skies are often clear and it is still possible to get outdoors and enjoy activities.
Head up to Juukoku Toge during the Winter months for the best views of Mt Fuji and if you enjoy touring in your car or on a motorbike this is the best time to enjoy the Izu Skyline and road to Hakone.
SPRING (March – May – 10 – 25 degrees)
Kannami has many Kawazu Cherry Blossoms that blossom in early February but the town also has other varieties of the iconic Japanese blossom that flower in Spring along the riverside.
BY TRAIN
Kannami Station is on the Local Tokaido Main Line between Atami and Mishima Stations so it is relatively easy to access by train from Tokyo.
BY CAR
If you are traveling to Kannami by car it is recommended that you first stop at the Izu Gateway Roadside Station.
Take the Tomei Expressway and exit at the Numazu-Nagaizumi IC, keep right following the signs for Izu Jukan and the follow highway 1 which will merge onto Route 136.
GETTING AROUND
Getting around Kannami is not easy and it is recommended that you have a car or camping-car/campervan if you want to get around to places such as Oratche Farm and Juukoku Toge.
RYOKAN
But Mishima has a proud history of accommodating weary travelers on the Old Tokaido Road but unfortunately there are not many of these traditional accommodations remaining.
HOTELS & RESORT HOTELS
Due to its position as on the JR Tokaido Bullet Train Line there are many people that travel through and stop in Mishima on business and there are a number of hotels close to the station, ranging from 2 to 4 stars, that are comfortable and great value for money.
MINSHUKU & GUESTHOUSES
There are currently no Minshuku or Guesthouses around Mishima Station.
CAMPGROUNDS & CAMPING CAR OPTIONS
There are also no campgrounds or camping car options in the Mishima area.
